Professor Welsch recognized on the MeetEngland 2025 Roll of Honour
Prof Carsten P Welsch, EuPRAXIA-DN coordinator and EuPRAXIA-PP WP2 leader, was presented with a 2026 MeetEngland Impact Network Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in bringing major scientific events to England. In addition to dozens of scientific workshops, schools and symposia, Professor Welsch had a key role in bringing the flagship Linear Accelerator Conference ( LINAC 2022 ), the International Beam Instrumentation Conference ( IBIC 2025 ), and the Intern

PALLAS Achieves Electron Beam in fully beamline integrated Compact Dual Gas Cell Configuration
The PALLAS project (Prototyping Accelerator based on Laser pLASma technologies) at IJCLab (Irène Joliot-Curie Laboratory of Physics) has produced its first electron beam in a fully beamline-integrated double gas cell. This world-first compact configuration marks a significant milestone in advancing next-gen laser-plasma wakefield acceleration technologies. Developed in collaboration with LLR and LP2I Bordeaux of CNRS Nuclear and Particles Physics and Université Paris-Saclay,

Progress Toward Beam Diagnostics for FLASH Proton Therapy
A new publication from the University of Liverpool’s QUASAR Group reports the design and characterization of an advanced extraction system for a Supersonic Gas Curtain–based Ionization Profile Monitor (SGC-IPM), contributes to the development of beam diagnostics for FLASH proton therapy. Schematic of SGC-IPM (Extraction system highlighted in green box). (Image credit: Parambil, F. T. M., et al, Instruments, 10(1), 4, CC BY) The work has been published in the open-access jour

EuPRAXIA Seminar with a focus on Laser Wakefield Acceleration
The next seminar in the series will take place on Friday 6th February at 11am UK time . Dan Symes, Experimental Operations Manager for the Gemini laser facility, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK, will present his seminar, Plans for laser-wakefield acceleration at the UK Extreme Photonics Applications Centre. Dan Symes About the talk High power laser pulses can be used to create compact plasma accelerators through the process of laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA). The acce

Shrinking Kilometer-Scale Particle Accelerators to the Lab Bench
Work conducted at the Central Laser Facility (part of the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, UK) by a group of international researchers, including EuPRAXIA collaborators, has led to the development of a new diagnostic technique to measure ultrashort electron beams produced by laser wakefield acceleration (LWFA). This may help bring powerful x-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs), currently several kilometers long, down to tabletop scales. Schematic of the experimental setup.* Conve
